Srinagar: South Kashmir district of Shopian Saturday ended its consecutive shutdown of 16 days as shopkeepers opened their shops and children went to their schools.
Shopian remained shut to protest civilian and militant killings which took place at short intervals in the district.
Shopian district is very tense ever since April 1, after 12 militants were killed by government forces in two different gunfights.
Later the killings continued until five militants and five civilians were killed in the southern district on May 6 including Hizb commander Saddam Paddar and university professor Dr Rafi Ahmad.
Shopian remained shut for 51 days this year so far resulting in massive damages to business and education of the children.
Mobile and broadband internet also remained snapped in the district.
