Kupwara, May 23 (GNS): The three-day annual Urs-e-Mubarak of Hazrat-e-Zati Shahwali (RA) began at Muqam-i-Shahwali Drugmulla here on Thursday – after observance of nightlong prayers (Shabb) on preceding night.

Thousands of devotees including men, women and children throughout the day flocked the shrine to witness the display of holy relics (Tabrukaat) of Hazrat-e-Zati Shahwali (RA) after each prayer at Muqam-e-Shahwali – named only after the revered Sufi saint.

The Urs, a local Auqaf Committee member told GNS, will continue for another two days. “It is a three-day event during which the relics of the Sufi saint are displayed to the devotees coming from different parts of the Valley,” said the Auqaaf member.

Thanking the district administration for making necessary and elaborate arrangement on the eve, the Auqaaf member said, “We extend our deep gratitude to District Administration Kupwara for making necessary and elaborate arrangements including security, availability of water and power supply besides ensuring medical, transport, sanitation and cleanliness facilities at the venue.”

Meanwhile, the devotees also appreciated and complimented the district administration for elaborate arrangements on the auspicious eve.

Pertinent to mention here that Shah Wali is believed to be a scion of Chak Dynasty – founded by Nasir-ud-Din Mohammad Ghazi Shah Chak (Ghazi Chak). As the legend goes, before renouncing the world Shah held a high-ranking position in the then army. (GNS)
