Srinagar, August 23:Anantnag police arrested a truck driver and recovered 28 Kilograms of poppy straw from his truck in Sangam area, meanwhile Kulgam police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 12 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession.
A police party of Police Post Sangam, Anantnag during their routine naka checking intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB07Y-1197 driven by Ramandeep Singh son of Dilbagh Singh resident of Dubya Hoshierpur Punjab at National Highway Marhama.
On checking 28 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the truck. The truck was seized and the driver was arrested on spot. Anantnag police registered a case and investigation was taken up.
In Kulgam, during routing naka checking at Police Post Jawahar Tunnel, a passenger vehicle bearing registration number JK02T-2424 was intercepted. On checking the vehicle, 12 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the possession of Harmesh Lal and Charanjeet Singh residents of Gadi Nowhsher Punjab. Both the drug peddlers were arrested and a case FIR number 222/2017 under section 8/15 NDPS was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was taken up.
