‘I appeal youth who have picked up guns to surrender’
Srinagar, Aug 08 (KNS): At least 60 youth have been brought back from joining militancy following the arrest of three youth in Baramulla on Monday, police said.
Director General of Police Dr S P Vaid said that 60 youth have been brought back from joining militancy.
“Not only have we saved 60 lives but 60 families from destruction. Families get destroyed when their children, be it a militant or any other person, get destroyed. I appeal to those who have joined militancy to come back and surrender so that we all can make Jammu and Kashmir prosperous place,” Vaid, according to KNS correspondent, told reporters during his visit to DPL in Anantnag.
The DGP said that situation in south Kashmir is returning to normalcy with the cooperation of people with police and security forces.
“Our effort is that army and paramilitary moves together with police so that they don’t take any wrong step. You must have seen that no civilian casualty happened because of police. We have directed all the officers to handle people in the best possible way. But for those who have picked up guns, there is no other options,” Vaid said in reply to a question.
The DGP said that police gives militants a chance to surrender during encounters by calling their families.
“I appeal to those youth who have picked up guns to surrender so that their lives and their families are saved from destruction. Viewpoints can be put in a right manner, not in a way that creates misrule,” he said.
He appealed to media persons and social media users not to post such things which “push youth towards guns”.
The DGP said the SSPs and senior police officers will call Public-Police Contact Programmes to help in resolving grievances of the people.
IGP Kashmir Munir Khan, DIG south Kashmir Range SP Pani, SSPs of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, DIG CRPF and other officers were present during the visit.
