Shopian, Apr 20 (KS): A severe hailstorm wreaked havoc in several villages of Shopian, causing significant damage to apple trees threatening the expected produce for the ongoing year.
Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Scroll said that intense hailstorm was witnessed in Trenz, Mohandpora, Thairan, Dangarpora, Moolu and other adjacent hamlets.
The apple orchards, acting as a major source of income for the local populace, suffered major brunt as the hails’ have damaged the buds to a large extent.
Expressing distress, a local resident while talking with Kashmir Scroll (KS) emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Damage to apple trees in the early stage is a very big problem. We request the administration to intervene as we don’t have any other source of income.”
“The impact of hailstorm on apple orchards underscores the vulnerability of agricultural communities to natural disasters,” another local said.
“Authorities are urged to assess the extent of the damage and provide necessary assistance to affected farmers to help them recover from this devastating event,” said the local. (KS)
