Allegations of Irregularities in PMAY Disbursements Spark Demand for Investigation in Baramulla

Baramulla, Nov 25 : Dozens of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-U) in Baramulla town have been waiting for their payments for over six months, leaving their homes incomplete and lives in distress.

The scheme, designed to provide affordable housing to urban households, has failed to deliver timely financial support to many eligible residents.

“Our houses are under open skies, and despite completing all formalities, we have not received a single rupee. How are we supposed to live like this?” questioned a frustrated beneficiary.

Adding to the woes, residents have alleged irregularities in the scheme’s implementation. Some claim that ineligible individuals, including former councilors of the Municipal Council Baramulla (MCB), unfairly benefited from the scheme in 2022.

When contacted, MCB Baramulla officials stated that they had forwarded all beneficiary files to the Jammu & Kashmir Housing Board and blamed the delay on the board.

“We have done our part; the payments are held up at their end,” they clarified.

The affected families have appealed to higher authorities to investigate these allegations and expedite the disbursement process.

They urge the Jammu & Kashmir Housing Board to release the pending funds immediately, enabling them to complete their homes and live with dignity.
