Handwara, Dec 8: Continuing its unwavering efforts to eradicate the menace of Drugs from the society, Police have arrested 01 drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A team of Police Station Handwara established a Naka at Kachwari Handwara , during checking one person namely Irshad Ahmad Sofi Son of Mohd Ramzan Sofi R/o Bakiakher was apprehended by police team ,during his personal search 100 grams of Charas like Substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was arrested on spot.
In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 217/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding Drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.

Srinagar, Dec 8: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday hoped the Jammu and Kashmir government will grant age relaxation to candidates for police sub-inspector posts as recruitment has been delayed since 2019.

The former chief minister said age relaxation is a legitimate demand.

“Countless JKPSI aspirants stare at a bleak future owing to recruitment delays since 2019 due to corruption & exam cancellations. Age relaxation is a legitimate demand & I hope it’s granted immediately,” Mehbooba said in a post on X.

She tagged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in her post.

The written examination for the recruitment of police sub-inspectors was held in 2022 but the list of selected candidates was cancelled after allegations of irregularities surfaced.

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe was ordered into the alleged irregularities and the agency has filed a chargesheet against 24 people, including a BSF officer, in the case.–(PTI)
