Kangan The Traders Union Kangan has officially appointed its new leadership team following the recent Beat Elections, where 11 members were elected.
The election results were announced on Saturday, marking a significant moment for the local business community.
In a statement released by the Traders Union, Umar Rather was declared the new President, while Manzoor Ahmad will serve as the General Secretary. Notably, Umar Rather secured the President’s position unopposed, as he was the sole candidate for the role. Meanwhile, Manzoor Ahmad emerged victorious for the General Secretary position by obtaining the majority of votes among two candidates vying for the post.
The Chief Election Commissioner had previously outlined the electoral schedule, which followed a successful general body election conducted across 11 beats last week. The association noted that only three nominations were submitted one for the President and two for the General Secretary.
Expressing his gratitude upon his election, Umar Rather remarked, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the shopkeepers, elected beat members, the election commission, and particularly those individuals who initiated the election process months ago. After accepting the role of President, he continued, “Thank you for placing your trust and confidence in my abilities to assume this office. It is my honour and privilege to accept this position.”
Rather acknowledged the significant commitment required for the role but expressed his readiness to collaborate with newly elected beat members to build on the successes of the past. “Our mission is clear: to support, promote, and protect the interests of our members and the wider community,” he added.
