Ganderbal Police Bust Drug Racket; Two Peddlers Arrested With Over 1.8 kg Contraband

Ganderbal 13 Dec:In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Ganderbal Police, acting on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal, JKPS, have busted a drug racket and arrested two notorious drug peddlers, recovering over 1.8 kilograms of narcotic substances.

 

As part of a swift and well-coordinated operation, a police team from Police Station Ganderbal, led by the SHO Ganderbal, established a naka at Tengpora Dhobipora. During routine checking, two individuals were intercepted and apprehended on the spot. They were identified as Aqib Rashid Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, and Tasaduq Majeed Bhat, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat, both residents of Guzerbal, Ganderbal.

 

During a thorough search, police recovered a bag from Aqib Rashid Bhat containing 1024 grams of bhangpatri (ganja-like substance) and 58 grams of charas-like substance. Another bag recovered from Tasaduq Majeed Bhat contained 780 grams of bhangpatri (ganja-like substance). The total quantity of seized contraband exceeded 1.8 kilograms, indicating the accused persons’ involvement in large-scale drug peddling.

 

Accordingly, FIR No. 201/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal. Further investigation is underway. The seized contraband has been sent for forensic examination, and both accused remain in police custody.

 

Commending the police team for the successful operation, SSP Ganderbal termed it a significant blow to drug smuggling networks in the district and reiterated that Ganderbal Police remains firmly committed to eradicating the menace of drugs and ensuring a drug-free society. Investigations are being expanded to identify and dismantle the wider drug network involved.
