Shopian Police Crack Down on Illegal Mineral Mining, Seize 05 Vehicles; Two FIRs Registered

Srinagar June 05: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, J&K Police in Shopian seized four tractors and one tipper involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Borihalan and Sugan areas of the district.

 

During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Station Heerpora intercepted and seized three tractors and one tipper involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this regard, FIR No. 47/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Heerpora and investigation has been set into motion. In a similar action, a police team from Police Station Zainapora intercepted and seized one tractor involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without mandatory permission. In this regard, FIR No. 79/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been set into motion.

 

Police reiterates its firm commitment to protecting the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. The general public is urged to cooperate by reporting any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
