8 people detained during security check at Jammu railway station amid Amarnath yatra

Jammu, Jul 16: The Government Railway Police on Thursday detained eight people during a preventive checking drive at Jammu railway station as part of security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath yatra, officials said.

The checking operation was conducted by the GRP Jammu to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims arriving for the annual pilgrimage.

The eight individuals were found roaming under suspicious circumstances and were detained for verification, they said. Two preventive complaints under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were registered against them, the officials said.

All the detained persons were produced before Jammu Executive Magistrate First Class (EMIC) Rakh Bahu for further legal proceedings, they said.

The railway police said security measures have been intensified at Jammu Railway Station and other areas under its jurisdiction to ensure a safe and secure environment for pilgrims and the general public during the yatra.

Officials said preventive checking and surveillance would continue throughout the pilgrimage to maintain law and order.

They added that 14 people were similarly detained under Sections 39 and 128 of the BNSS during a security drive conducted a few days ago.–(PTI)
