Ganderbal, July 18 (KNZ): In a continued crackdown on illegal mining, Ganderbal Police on Friday seized six vehicles, including three tippers, two tractors, and one load carrier, for their alleged involvement in the illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals across different areas of the district.
The action was carried out within the jurisdictions of Police Station Safapora, Police Station Kheerbawani, and Police Post Shadipora, where the vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorization, violating the prescribed mining regulations.
Police said the vehicles were seized on the spot, following which the matter was taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed the prescribed penalty under the relevant provisions of law.
Reiterating its resolve to protect the district’s natural resources, Ganderbal Police said the drive against illegal mining will continue with full vigour. The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting illegal mining activities, while warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators.(KNZ)
