Chatroo-Kishtwar National Highway Closed For Vehicular Movement

Jammu, Aug 1 (GNS): All government and private schools in Ramban and Kishtwar districts will remain closed today, due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, officials said.

An official told GNS that in Ramban, the Chief Education Officer issued an order citing prevailing inclement weather and directions from the District Administration. Heads of Institutions have been directed to conduct online classes through appropriate digital platforms to ensure students’ academics continue without disruption.

Similarly in Kishtwar, the CEO ordered closure of all schools across the district in view of heavy rain, slippery roads and the risk of shooting stones. The order, issued in compliance with the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, stated that the step has been taken to safeguard students and staff.

The CEO Kishtwar also instructed school heads to switch to online mode and conduct classes effectively so that teaching-learning activities are not hampered.

Authorities have advised people to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas as moderate to heavy rainfall continues across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, in Kishtwar’s Chatroo area, several vehicles are believed to have been washed away in the cloudburst and property damage has also been reported. The exact extent of the damage is still being assessed. Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries have been reported. The Chatroo–Kishtwar National Highway has been closed for vehicular movement following the incident.(GNS)
