Ganderbal, Aug 5: As part of the security and disaster management preparations for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026), Ganderbal Police on Wednesday conducted a joint mock drill at Nilgrath in Sonamarg to assess the preparedness and operational readiness of various stakeholder agencies in handling emergency situations.

The exercise was carried out under the coordination of Police Station Sonamarg and the Special Operations Group (SOG) Ganderbal, with active participation from the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Fire and Emergency Services, the Health Department and other agencies associated with the annual pilgrimage.

The mock drill simulated an emergency scenario requiring a coordinated multi-agency response. It focused on testing inter-agency coordination, communication systems, rapid mobilisation of resources, rescue and evacuation procedures, casualty management, traffic regulation and the overall effectiveness of emergency response mechanisms in accordance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Officials said the exercise was aimed at strengthening coordination among all participating agencies and enhancing their ability to respond effectively to any contingency during the Yatra.

Ganderbal Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring the highest standards of security and preparedness during SANJY-2026, stating that such joint exercises will continue to further improve emergency response capabilities and ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims and the general public.
