Baramulla, August 29: In a significant enforcement action against illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minor minerals, the Geology and Mining Department, Baramulla, has seized 36 tippers during an intensive eight-day operation conducted from August 22 to August 29, 2026.

The sustained enforcement drive was carried out with the active assistance of Baramulla Police, targeting violations related to illegal extraction, transportation and handling of minor minerals across different areas of the district.

As part of the crackdown, two FIRs have also been registered against alleged violators, further underscoring the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards activities detrimental to the environment and in violation of mining regulations.

District Mineral Officer (DMO) Baramulla, Kaisar Ahmad Lone, has reiterated that stringent action will continue against individuals and operators found involved in illegal mining activities. He has directed field teams to maintain strict surveillance and intensify inspections to curb violations effectively.

The department has also cautioned vehicle operators, contractors and other stakeholders against indulging in unauthorised mining or transportation of minor minerals, warning that violators will face strict legal action, including seizure of vehicles and registration of cases under the applicable laws.

Officials said the enforcement campaign will continue in the coming days to safeguard natural resources, ensure compliance with mining norms and prevent revenue loss to the government.
