Anantnag Police Nab Two Suspected Drug Peddlers, Charas Recovered During Patrolling

 

ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 2: (KNC)Anantnag Police has intensified its crackdown on the illegal drug trade, apprehending two persons allegedly involved in drug-related activities during a routine patrolling operation in the Mirgund area of Anantnag.

 

According to police, a team from Police Station Anantnag was conducting routine patrols near Rehmat Alam Masjid, Mirgund, when the personnel intercepted and detained two individuals for checking.

 

The two apprehended persons have been identified as Uzair Ashraf Wani, son of Mohammad Ashraf Wani, and Mujtaba Mehraj, son of Mehraj Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Sarnal, Anantnag.

 

During the course of checking, police said that a quantity of charas was recovered from their possession. Following the recovery, legal proceedings were initiated against the accused persons.

 

Police said that FIR No. 291/2026 has been registered at Police Station Anantnag under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

 

An investigation into the case has been taken up to ascertain the source of the contraband and determine whether the accused were connected with a wider drug distribution network.

 

Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to curbing the drug menace and preventing the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the district. Police said that strict legal action would continue against individuals found involved in drug-related offences.(KNC)
