Srinagar, October 17: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar Singh, on Saturday chaired a conference on SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing, directing all police stations across Kashmir Zone to adopt modern, technology-driven and citizen-centric policing practices.
The conference was attended by Range DIGs, District SSPs, Additional SSPs, Zonal SSPs, DySPs and Station House Officers (SHOs) from across the Kashmir Zone.
In line with the vision and directions of the Director General of Police, J&K, the IGP directed all police stations to integrate SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing into their routine functioning to ensure efficient, accountable and citizen-friendly police services.
Emphasising the five fundamental principles of SMART Policing—**Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, and Techno-savvy and Trained**—the IGP stressed that these principles must be reflected in the day-to-day conduct, working culture and public service delivery of every police station.
### Focus on Digital Beat Policing
The IGP directed all SHOs to institutionalise Digital Beat Policing in their respective jurisdictions. Beat Officers were instructed to conduct regular field visits, maintain meaningful interaction with local residents and ensure that police services reach every citizen at the grassroots level.
He emphasised regular updating of digital beat records, prompt grievance redressal, transparent service delivery, clearly defined responsibilities and enhanced community participation to strengthen public confidence in the police.
The IGP further stressed the need to equip police stations with modern technological tools, digital capabilities and professional skills to meet emerging policing challenges.
Observing that police stations serve as the primary point of contact between the police and the public, he said they must remain accessible, responsive and technologically empowered. Supervisory officers were directed to personally monitor implementation and ensure tangible results on the ground.
“Our objective is to make every Police Station in Kashmir Zone SMART and citizen-centric, where technology strengthens accountability and police services reach every citizen with dignity,” the IGP Kashmir said.
All District Police Heads were directed to ensure effective implementation of the initiative, with particular emphasis on technology-driven service delivery, community engagement and accountability at the beat level.
Kashmir Zone Police reiterated its commitment to building a modern, responsive and future-ready policing system focused on public service and citizens’ trust.
