Promises matter more than cabinet berths: Congress MLA Irfan Lone

Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNO): Congress MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone on Tuesday said fulfilling promises made to the people should be the government’s priority, asserting that the focus should not be on who has been inducted into the Council of Ministers and who has been left disappointed.

Speaking after the swearing-in of ministers, Lone, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said it is natural for legislators to aspire to serve people in ministerial positions, but everyone could not be accommodated in the Cabinet.

“It is obvious that they expect to serve people in this capacity as well, but everyone cannot become a minister. Who is in the ministry and who is hurt is not important; what is important is that the promises made to people are fulfilled,” he said.

Lone expressed hope that the government would deliver on its commitments and address people’s genuine grievances, including issues concerning daily wagers, employment, ration and free electricity.

He said people had high expectations from the government and hoped their concerns would be addressed.

Lone said vote chori, paper leaks, curtailment of freedom of speech and restoration of statehood were collective challenges that needed to be fought.—(KNO)
