Directs digitization of records, speedy disposal of cases

ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 07: Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed today visited court complexes of Principal and District Sessions Judge Anantnag and Sub-Judge Bijbehara and Pahalgam to take stock of developmental works there and directed fast-tracking pending cases.

He was accompanied by Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik and SSP Anantnag, Altaf Ahmad Khan.

During the visit, the Chief Justice interacted with the lawyers who presented their demands including the upgradation of facilities for the litigants, filling up of vacancies of Munsifs, chambers for the lawyers and other relating issues.

“Ensuring fast-track disposal of court cases shall be our lasting contribution and every one of us needs to contribute in this regard,” he told the lawyers.

The Chief Justice said that technological interventions need to be introduced in all the courts and in this direction e-courts have been established for speedy disposal of the court cases. He said that Anantnag will be the first district where the digitization of records shall be introduced which will be a step towards going paperless.

The Chief Justice expected the judges and lawyers to work in tandem for the expeditious disposal of court cases. He directed that cases pending over 10 years should be disposed off within a month followed by prioritizing the cases which are pending for over 5 years.

On the occasion, Justice Magrey said that “we are duty bound to provide timely deliverance of justice and to mitigate the miseries of litigants”.  He said that 24 munsifs which have been recently appointed shall be posted which will to a large extent help in clearing the pendency of the courts. He also called upon the presidents of Bar Associations to encourage more lady lawyers in the practice.

Later, the Chief Justice visited the Sarnal area where 56 Kanals of land have been identified for construction of new District Court Complex. He directed the DC to submit the revenue documents to the Principal and District Sessions Judge, Anantnag so that DRP formulation and execution of work shall be taken up at an earliest.

On the occasion, Principal and District Sessions Judge, Syed Towkeer Ahmad, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mohammad Amin Mir, Additional District Judge, Masarat Jabeen, all Sub-Judges of subordinate courts, Presidents Bar Associations of Anantnag and Bijbehara and lawyers fraternity were present.
