State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara to file a detailed report about the killing of a Taxi Driver Asif Iqbal.
The spokesman said Asif Iqbal, a resident of Thandipora Kupwara was killed by Army in an ambush a couple of days back. The army had said that the deceased was asked to stop, however, he didn’t respond to the warning.
The spokesman added that Chairman, International Forum for Justice Muhammad Ahsan Untoo in his petition to SHRC has submitted that the magisterial probes are never being made public while District Administration should be directed to not only file a detailed report on the killing but also the probe report be made public.
“A couple of years back, the army killed a sixty years old beggar Sanaullah Bhat, labelling him as a non-local militant. The probe was ordered into that killing as well, but it was not made public,” the petition reads.
The petition further reads that if Army claims that there was an ambush, why it had not informed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara in advance.
Acting upon the petition, Chairman SHRC directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara to file a detailed report in this regard by or before February 15, 2018.
