Pulwams:Militants on Sunday carried out a ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) attack on a paramilitary CRPF camp in Pulwama in south Kashmir, killing four troopers. Two militants have also been killed in the gunfight.
Reports quoting sources said that three troopers were killed in the attack. Another trooper died of cardiac arrest.
Earlier, IG CRPF Ravi Deep Sahi told Greater Kashmir that the attack took place on 185 CRPF training centre in Letpora Awantipora around 2 am.
“Armed militants entered the camp, hurled UBGL grenades and started indiscriminate firing at 2:05 AM, leaving three CRPF personnel injured. Later one soldier succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
The deceased was identified as Saifudin Ganaie.
The injured were shifted to 92 Army Base hospital Srinagar for treatment where their condition is said to be critical.
Soon after the attack, the area was cordoned off and search operation started immediately. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the area.
Following the attack, authorities have snapped internet service in Pulwama district.
