Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat (G) Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday expressed anguish and concern over the worsening condition of prisoners across Kashmir valley.
In a statement, Geelani said that Kashmiri prisoners are being ill-treated and subjected to mental and physical torture in jails.
He said: “We have reports from Udhampur jail that Kashmiri youth are being targeted.
“They are meted out worst treatment with unavailability of medicines and medical care and substandard quality of food is taking tool on their health.
“Detainees are compelled to use dirty and unhygienic utensils. Even no proper food is provided as per the jail manual,” Geelani said.
Geelani while denouncing the Udhampur jail Superintendent jail of Udhampor of her inhuman and harsh behaviour against detainees, he said that she has turned jail into hell and jail mates are pressurised and compelled to participate in obscene and offensive cultural programmes and dance concerts.
He said the jail authorities have let loose the reign of terror and non-Muslim prisoners are being provided free hand to create disturbances during prayer times.
Also, he said that three youth, Mudasir Ahmad Wani, Irfan Ahmad Wani and Abdul Lateef Wani, in Bandipora police station are being tortured and targeted.
Meanwhile, Geelani has also put international human rights organizations on notice over the condition of Kashmiri prisoners who are being detained in jails across Jammu Kashmir and India
