Ganderbal
15 Feb:Menace of drug trafficking, peddling and consumption has involved entire society especially youth for which a crusade has to be started to eradicate it . In this regard District Police Ganderbal has adopted more aggressive approach to book all those criminals who are either involved in peddling or consumption of drugs. A person who is booked under NDPS Act for possession of drugs generally gets bail on account of small quantity of drug and such persons rather than improving their behavior again resort to nefarious design of selling of drugs.
Therefore normal provisions of law do not deter such criminals and it necessitates to invoke the preventive provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act so as to keep such persons out of circulation for considerable time to prevent their activities of selIing drugs and involving more youth. To this effect one Nazir Ahmed Rather @Kanwar S/o Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Rather R/O Wakura Ganderbal has been detained under NDPS Act preventive passed by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.
Said person after detention has been sent to Kupwara Jail. All such persons who are recidivist and still involved in drug peddling shalt be detained under preventive provisions of NDPS Act on the analogy of Public Safety Act (PSA) so that youth of the area is saved from consumption of drugs as well preventing deterioration of their health. Sr.Superintend of Police Ganderbal Khalil Poswal JKPS held a meeting with respectable persons of Saloora area and sought their support in preventing spreading of menace of drugs. General Public has widely appreciated the role of action of Police in terms of invoking preventive provisions of law.
