DC Bandipora Inaugurates Painting Competition to create awareness about Public Outreach Programme

BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 17: District Development Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad on Saturday appealed the people of the Bandipora towns to participate in the “My Town My Pride” programme aiming at reaching out to the people at their doorsteps to ensure on spot redressal of their issues and grievances.

He said this after inaugurating a painting competition at Nishat Park Bandipora as part of an awareness programme regarding “My Town My Pride”. DC Bandipora said “My Town My Pride” is an initiative to strengthen Urban Local Self-Governance and to serve the people with responsive, accountable and participatory governance. He said the programme has three main objectives – Public outreach in towns, Strengthening grass-root democracy, and service delivery at doorsteps, he added.

Dr Owais appealed to the people to be part of the decision making process and decide about utilization of funds meant for development of their wards by participating in ward meeting during “My Town My Pride” programme. “People should meet and discuss about their development issues and prioritize works as per need and develop an action plan for their own wards”.

He said the visiting officers shall identify the gaps and ensure sustained and synchronized efforts to remove bottlenecks. He said “My Town My Pride” is on the lines of successfully concluded the ‘Back to Village’ programme for providing doorstep delivery of different government services and to identify structural issues firsthand. “

He said during the painting competition the children have imagined their ideal town through paintings and have emphasized on cleanliness, sanitation and Polythene-Free towns. He said the district administration is taking several initiatives to resolve the issues of Solid Waste Management, drainage and sanitation. He said the people need to sit down and discuss during ward meetings about these issues and prioritize works for implementation.

The DDC also asked all the concerned officers to work in tandem and coordination so that people of the town get benefitted of the new initiative of the Government, envisaged to provide better service delivery and governance at the doorsteps of the people living in towns.

He exhorted upon all the concerned officers of important departments involved in public service delivery like issuance of domicile certificates, widow/disabled /old age pension, enrolment and up-dation of Aadhar and power supply, issuance of birth/ death certificate, sanction of loans to start-ups/ entrepreneurs by banks and others for setting up a dedicated stalls/Kiosk at the venue of the program.
