GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 17: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, who is also chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), today chaired a meeting to discuss emergency preparedness and response plan in the event of disasters in the district.
During the meeting thorough discussion was held on the role and responsibilities of the stakeholders, while undertaking rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in the event of natural disasters in the district .
The DC laid thrust on strengthening of committees at District, Tehsil, Block and Panchayat levels, while further directing the concerned officers to organize periodic mock drills at all levels to evaluate their operational readiness.
Discussions related to transport, technical teams and medical response were also held during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the DC also reviewed the arrangements put in place for winters in the district.
During the meeting threadbare discussion was held regarding availability of snow clearance machines, establishing of Joint Control Room and action plans prepared by the concerned departments to prevent interruption to services during harsh weather conditions.

He impressed upon the officers to remain available at headquarters for prompt response to the public grievances and for better coordination in dealing with snow clearance operations in the district during the winter.
He also directed for activation of the joint control room with adequate manpower to cater to the needs of the general public especially during snowing days.
The DC directed for ensuring that snow clearance machines are positioned at all critical spots and that these are pressed into service as soon as snow starts to accumulate prioritising roads leading to all important installations across the district including Hospitals.
He sought inter-departmental coordination for effective response for any eventuality in the approaching winter season and exhorted that the reaction time should be prompt and the snow clearness plan should be effectively implemented.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; CPO, Irfan Giri; ACD, ACR, Executive Engineers of various wings and other members of DDMA.
