Kulgam, Oct 25 (KNO): The residents of Dar Mohalla Turka Tachloo village in Qaimoh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are facing scarcity of portable water since last ten years, locals alleged Tuesday.
Blaming the Jal Shaki department of ignoring their plight, the residents demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
The residents said that acute water scarcity has hit their village since last 10 years while the officials are paying no heed towards their sufferings. “Over 100 households are without drinking water facility due to which locals are facing immense hardships,” Javid Ahmad, a local resident told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He said a water supply scheme is functional in the area since many years but it caters to just few households and most of households are without portable water supply because of a small pipeline which connects the village.
“The women folk and even children have to walk for hours to fetch water which is contaminated,” he said. Asked about the daily supply to village via tanker as claimed by concerned Assistant Executive Engineer, Ahmad said: “A false claim was made by AEE in the J&K LG’s grievances portal that water is being supplied via tankers which is not based on reality”.
Despite several attempts, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Jal Shakti Division Kulgam didn’t receive the calls of this reporter. The locals requested the higher ups to look into the matter at the earliest and take immediate steps for providing potable water to the area—(KNO)
