Rs 1.77 cr distributed among 336 beneficiaries

BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 11: Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq Khan today launched the centrally sponsored ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’ (Grameen) at Baramulla in presence of Minister for Horticulture Syed Basharat Bukhari.
The scheme aims at providing assistance to the poor and economically downtrodden for constructing residential houses.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted various aspects of the scheme and said the scheme has been launched with the mission of providing housing for all by 2022. He said that Baramulla is the first district that chosen for launching this ambitious scheme.
While emphasizing upon the concerned for bringing transparency in its implementation, the Minister said that our commitment is to uplift the weaker section of the society for which various welfare schemes are afoot.
The Minister also stresses for proper verification of the beneficiaries so that funds allotted for the scheme are not misappropriated.
Highlighting the need for awareness dissemination regarding the importance of community assets, the Minister sought cooperation from the people in realizing the dream of development and urged upon them to properly monitor the quality of development works in their respective areas.
Abdul Haq directs the BDOs to organize Gram Sabhas in their respective areas on September 15 through which the actual beneficiaries are identified besides creating awareness among masses. He also complimented the role of various officers and field functionaries for their endeavors.
Meanwhile, Minister for Horticulture Syed Basharat Bukhari hailed the endeavors of Rural Development Department and said that the department has a proactive role to play for the socio-economic development of rural areas.
He also said the present collation government led by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has taken the mission of development and is personally monitoring the pace and performance of every department.
Assistant Commissioner Development Mir Munawar highlighted the various aspects of the scheme through the power point presentation and said that 336 beneficiaries were identified among which Rs 1.77 crore will be distributed.
He said that Rs 12000 for construction of toilet under SBM and 90 mandays under MNREGA will also be provided to the beneficiary.
Legislators Javed Hassan Beigh, Mohammad Abass Wani and Yawar Dilawar Mir, District Development Commissioner Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, Director RDD Gazanfar Ali and various other district and Sectoral officers besides a huge gathering of people were present on the occasion.
