Jammu, April 9: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today produced a charge-sheet against Jyoti Devi, former Corporator of Ward No. 53, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, and her husband Sham Lal in a trap case involving the demand and acceptance of illegal gratification.
The charge-sheet was filed in the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, in case FIR No. 10/2022 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 120-B of the IPC. The case pertains to a complaint alleging that Jyoti Devi demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 for issuing a Mulba Clearance Certificate — necessary for the payment of work completed by the complainant — and directed the complainant to hand over the money to her husband, Sham Lal.
Refusing to succumb to the demand, the complainant approached the Anti Corruption Bureau for legal action. Following a discreet verification that confirmed the allegations, a case was registered, and an investigation was launched.
A trap team was subsequently constituted, leading to the successful apprehension of Jyoti Devi and Sham Lal. Both were caught red-handed accepting the bribe money from the complainant. The recovery was made in the presence of independent witnesses.
Upon completion of the investigation and after obtaining necessary prosecution sanctions from the Government, the charge-sheet was filed against both accused. The Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, has since transferred the matter to the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, for judicial proceedings.
