Srinagar, Nov 07 (KS) : The Amarnath shrine in Kashmir valley, which was previously inaccessible for vehicular traffic, has witnessed its first-ever movement of four-wheelers official said.
An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), through its Project Beacon, have successfully accomplished the challenging task of enabling vehicular movement to the holy cave.
The official said that the vehicles reached the shrine via the Baltal area in central Kashmir’s Sonamarg.
He said that this route is comparatively shorter, with a 14 km trek, as opposed to the 20 km trek on the Pahalgam axis in south Kashmir’s Anantnag.
The officer further said that the Amarnath shrine attracts tens of thousands of devotees from all over the country every year. With the introduction of the road and improved infrastructure, it is expected that access to the shrine will be possible throughout the year, opening up more opportunities for pilgrimage he added.
