Anantnag Oct 07: [KNZ] Traders in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Saturday staged a sit-in to protest against alleged police excesses, even as a shutdown was observed in the town on the call of traders’ association.
The traders alleged that police lobbed teargas shells inside their shops at Reshi Bazar during clashes with protesters after Friday prayers.
They alleged that some shopkeepers were roughed up police while six were detained.
The traders, who staged a sit-in at Lal Chowk, demand an end to alleged police excesses and the transfer of the local SHO.
Meanwhile, a shutdown is being observed in Anantnag town except the KP road area on the call of the traders’ association.
The traders association had on Friday warned of an indefinite strike against the alleged excesses.
