Anantnag, Sep16: In its ongoing efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society, Anantnag Police arrested five individuals and seized a substantial amount of contraband substances. In a significant operation, a police team from PS Mattan, during a naka at Bumzoo Mattan, intercepted an Innova vehicle bearing registration number JK02DK/9333. Upon searching the vehicle, the Police recovered the following items:
11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 80 Dolo-T tablets, 70 OMODOL tablets, A good quantity of beer and alcohol, Rs 11,500 in cash
The three individuals inside the vehicle, identified as Lateef Ahmad Shah S/O Mohammad Qasim Shah R/O Nambal Mattan, Ayaz Ahmad Bhat S/O Mohammad Amin Bhat R/O Seer Hamdan, and Rayees Ahmad Malik S/O Gh Mohammad Malik R/O Sarnal Payeen, Anantnag, were arrested on the spot. The contraband, along with the vehicle used for the crime, was seized.
In another operation, a Police team from Police Station Anantnag set up a naka near Wazir Bagh Park, Anantnag, and intercepted an auto bearing registration number JK01AK-7694. The auto, coming from Bangdar towards Mehandi Kadal, was searched, leading to the recovery of a good amount of illicit liquor. The driver, identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar S/O Gh Qadir Dar R/O Zadipora, Anantnag, was arrested, and the contraband was seized.
Additionally, a Police team from Police Post Sangam, during a naka checking at Kudangan Marhama, apprehended one individual, identified as Noor Mohammad Ganie S/O Ab Rahim Ganie R/O Marhama, who was carrying a bag with a significant quantity of alcohol. The accused was arrested, and the contraband was seized.
Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in Police Stations Mattan, Anantnag, and Bijbehara, respectively, and investigations have been initiated.
