Srinagar, Aug 9,:Srinagar, Aug 9, CNS: In gross violation of state subject rules, authorities have issued a Voter ID Card to a resident from Andhra Pradesh.
This is not the isolated incident. If sources are to be believed, scores of such election cards have been issued by Booth Level Officers to non-state subjects without ascertaining proof and verification.
“How can authorities issue election card to a non-state subject and that too with local Assembly address. It may be the work of Booth Level Officer. Whosoever will be involved face the music. We will definitely act and probe the matter,” a top official told CNS.
The Voter ID card (CBZ0329235) has been issued to Andhra Pradesh resident Syed Sadat Hussain son of Ghulam Hyder Hussain. The card contains the Assembly Constituency number and name as 23-Amira Kadal with permanent address as 40 Lal Nagar Chanapora falling under the jurisdiction of police station Sadar.
Ironically, the card holder told CNS that the card has been issued in his favour, so that he can cast his vote during Parliament elections. When asked how can a non-state subject cast his vote in Jammu and Kashmir and that too when candidates are locals, Hussain had no answer.
An official on condition of anonymity said it is a serious matter that needs to be probed. “Action should be initiated against those who have issued it and a probe committee should be set up to ascertain how many cards have been issued to non-state subjects,” he said.
