Srinagar, Feb 8: CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday said that authorities should ensure Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid’s health does not deteriorate after he was shifted to a hospital in Delhi following his hunger strike.

Tarigami said that “Rashid is a public representative, representing a parliamentary constituency, and his case should be handled fairly and given a just trial.”

“Until the court reaches a conclusion on his bail plea, we urge the authorities to ensure he receives proper medical care. We are deeply concerned about his health after being shifted to the hospital,” the CPI(M) leader said.

MP Engineer Rashid began his hunger strike in the Tihar jail on last Friday to protest his continued incarceration and not allowing him to participate in the Budget session of the Parliament.

Tarigami added that a fair trial, bail consideration, and other legal rights are entitlements of every under trial.

He also reiterated that every jailed individual deserves to be heard and that justice should not be delayed.

The CPI(M) leader further added that, according to their families, the health of other Kashmiri detainees has also been deteriorating. He said that they too deserve a fair trial and urged the authorities to ensure proper care for their health.

On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had expressed concern over MP Engineer Rashid’s health.

Engineer Rashid’s party- Awami Itehad Party (AIP)-said on Friday that the MP has been shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi for medical attention.–(UNI)
