October 08: Police in Awantipora arrested a bootlegger and recovered 16 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at Awantipora Chowk intercepted an individual identified as Ishtiyaq Mahmood resident of Chersoo Awantipora. During search, officers were able to recover 16 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 143/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Locals have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well. Police have resolved to act tough against inimical elements.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti social elements in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in anti social activities will be dealt as per law.
