May 31: Continuing its efforts to root out the menace of drugs, Police launched extensive drive to destroy illegal poppy cultivation in Awantipora.
A police party from Police Station Awantipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over more than 25 kanals of land in Renzipora area of Awantipora. Six person involved in illegal cultivation of poppy have also been arrested. They have been identified as Khusheed Ahmad Mir, Kabir Mir both residents of Kawni Awantipora, Ali Mohmad Wagay resident of Nowgam Awantipora and Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Mohmad Yousf Bhat, Gh Qadir Bhat, all residents of Renzipora Awantipora. They have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.
Case FIR No. 73/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Similarly, a police party from Police Station Tral under the supervision of SDPO Tral destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over more than 05 kanals of land in Naibugh and Amirabad areas of Tral Awantipora.
General public of these areas have appreciated the action of police and have urged to continue such drives.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law.
