District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal in collaboration with Municipal Council Ganderbal organized awareness programme on “Solid Waste Management” today on 25th of April 2022 at Govt. College of Physical Education Ganderbal. The programme was held under the guidance of Ms. Tabasum Secretary DLSA Ganderbal.
Addressing the gathering comprising of Staff of Muncipal council Ganderbal, students, faculty members, non teaching staff of the college, the Secretary DLSA Ganderbal Ms. Tabasum explained in detail about the importance of Solid Waste Management, Water Harvesting, Cleanliness and ill effects of the use of Plastic/Polythene to our environment. Students were apprised of cleanliness measures initiated by the Center Government for making “Clean lndia, Green India”. Emphasies was laid upon complete enforcement of ban on use of polythene bags and proper disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. This is the time to say “No to use of Plastic/Polythene”,. Students were urged that they can be ambassador in their homes and areas to at least minimize production of solid wastes and aware people about the same, further they can be instrumental in disseminating information about the need of segregation of solid waste, to maximize recycling of the majority of solid wastes and the residue to be subjected to scientific land filling and incineration.
On the Occasion, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Ms. Bilkees jan, highlighted the various issues and management of segregation of Solid Waste Disposal. Two Pilot Projects will soon start in District Ganderbal, One at Tulamulla and another at Barwullah kangan for Segregation of Solid Waste Disposal. Participants were made aware about importance of sanitization. Audience was urged to take little steps in disposal of domestic wastes in pits and turn them into productive manure.
On the Occasion, President Municipal Council Ganderbal Mr. Hilal Ahmad Tantray, highlighted that plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues. He sensitized the participants regarding the importance of Solid Waste Management rules and highlighted other issues related to Solid Waste. Participants were sanzitized regarding the proper collection, segregation and disposal of Solid Wastes.
On the Occasion, Vice-President Municipal Council Ganderbal Mr. Abdul Majeed Mir highlighted that the primary goal of solid waste management rules is to reduce production of solid waste and to completely stop using polythne in our day to day life. Different ways be adopted to reduce the use of plastic bags by using reusable bags when going out for shopping, Refuse plastic bags. Plastic bags have become a threat to the life of living beings existing on the earth as well as in water bodies. Chemicals released by plastic bags enter the soil and make land infertile. Solid Waste management provisions should be embraced by each and every household, including the business owner.
Students from Govt. College of Physical Education Ganderbal also spoke on occasion and highlighted the concept of solid waste management. They also stressed upon, that Environmental Right is an extension of the basic human rights, that mankind requires and deserves and this means that all of us are duty bound to protect the environment. Waste management includes the processes and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal. The term Solid waste management mainly refers to complete process of collecting, treating, disposing of solid waste.
The programme was attended by Officers/Officials of Municipal Council Ganderbal, officials of DLSA Ganderbal, PLVs, Faculty members and students of Govt. College of Physical Education Ganderbal, and other participants
A pledge was also taken at the culmination of the programme to keep our environment safe and clean.
