To keep an eye on cheating, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has asked students appearing for the upcoming Class X board examinations, beginning from February 21, not to wear shoes and socks and instead wear slippers.*

_In the just-concluded Intermediate examination in the State, 985 students were expelled for use of “unfair means” and 25 were caught for impersonating other students._

“The board has decided that candidates wearing only slippers will be allowed to enter the examination halls…those coming to the centres wearing shoes and socks will have to remove them outside the hall”, said BSEB chairman Anand Kishor.

The board has taken this decision to “prevent cheating”, added Mr. Kishor.

Last year too, shoes and socks were not allowed for the students at the exam centres. “Besides, many agencies conducting entrance examinations too have banned shoes and socks inside examination halls”, said the BSEB chairman.

Altogether, 17.70 lakh students will be appearing for the Class X board examinations at 1,426 centres in the State this year, which is scheduled from February 21 to February 28.

The Board has also decided to depute one invigilator for every 25 students and the examination will be video recorded. “Section 144 to will be clamped on a radius of 200 meters from the examination centre”, said Mr. Kishor.

Bihar, of late, has been hitting the headlines for use of unfair means at Class X and Intermediate examinations and the BSEB taking tough measures to check cheating.
