MUMBAI: CID actor Dinesh Phadnis, who used to play the role of Fredericks in the popular show passed away on Monday (December 4) night. As reported by E-Times, the actor breathed his last at around midnight. His last rites will be held today.
Dinesh Phadnis was on ventilator support since December 2. While several media reports suggested that the actor was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack, his co-star Dayanand Shetty later clarified that Phadnis did not have a heart attack. “Dinesh Phadnis is hospitalised and on a ventilator, doctors are observing him. He has not suffered a heart attack, it is a different treatment and I wouldn’t like to comment on it,” Dayanand, who played the role of Senior Inspector Daya in CID, told The Indian Express.
The popular detective show CID started airing on television in 1998 and had a glorious run till 2018. It is one of the longest-running shows on Indian television. Dinesh played the role of Fredericks on the show and his character was loved by the audience for his comic timing and fun banter with other characters on the show, especially Shivaji Satam’s ACP Pradyuman.
Other than acting in the show, the actor also wrote some of the episodes of the show. He also made a cameo on another long-running sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, as his character from CID. The actor was also seen in the films Sarfarosh and Super 30. Dinesh has also written for a Marathi film.
After the show went off the air, fans missed watching their favourite character on screen. Dinesh maintained an active social media account to interact with his fans after the show ended. His fans are now concerned for his health. Stay tuned to this space for any updates on Dinesh’s health.
