Omar says, HM’s Visit Unrelated to Kathua Encounter, Was Pre-Scheduled
Srinagar, April 01 (JKNS ):- Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, inaugurated a free bus service exclusively for women today at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
This initiative as per news agency JKNS aims to provide safe and accessible transportation for women across the region, benefiting working professionals, students, and other female commuters by easing their travel burdens.
The free bus service aligns with the National Conference (NC) government’s broader efforts to promote women’s welfare and improve public transport access for women in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prior to assuming office, the NC government had pledged to implement such initiatives to support women’s mobility and safety and it was announced in recent budget and parliament sessions as well, CM Omar said while talking to reporters as per news agency JKNS.
Women can avail themselves of this free travel on government buses by presenting their Aadhaar cards.
The administration has instructed all relevant departments, including the Transport Department, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, and local law enforcement agencies, to ensure smooth coordination for the successful implementation of this service.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing women’s safety and accessibility in public transportation within the region.
Omar said that there won’t be any losses to smart bus service providers as they will be compensated by the government for the zero tickets.
Omar added that these facilities are being extended to every district of Jammu and Kashmir.
He, however, said that don’t link the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah with the Kathua encounter as it was scheduled before.
He said that Shah is going to address a gathering in Jammu and review different developmental projects on Jammu and Kashmir, apart from reviewing security situation.—(JKNS)
