Srinagar, 19 Dec: The temperature dropped significantly at some places in Kashmir with Pahalgam being the coldest place in the Valley at minus 9.5 degrees Celsius, Kashmir Weather, an independent weather forecaster said on Saturday.

The valley is expected to witness mainly dry weather over the next seven days, he added.

Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius, a drop of 0.6 degrees over the last night, the weather forecaster said.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 9.2 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 10.6 degrees Celsius the previous night, he said.

The mercury in Qazigund – the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir – settled at a low of minus 5.9 degrees Celsius, he said.

The night temperature in Kokernag, in south, and Kupwara, in north, settled at a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius, he said.

Bhaderwah town was the coldest recorded place in the Jammu region with a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Batote in Ramban district at 2.5 degrees Celsius, the weather forecaster said.

He said Jammu recorded a minimum of 3.3 degrees Celsius, 5.6 notches below normal during this part of the season, against the previous night’s 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Katra, which serves as the base camp for the pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, improved by over one degree in the night and settled at 4.9 degrees Celsius against the previous night’s 3.6 degrees Celsius, he said.
