BANDIPORA, MARCH 03: The Block Diwas / Youm e Block, a part of ambitious Jan Abhiyan programme was observed on Wednesday in all Mega blocks of Bandipora district, with enthusiastic participation of public during which officers listened to public issues, grievances and demands.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad attended the Public Darbar at Bapora in Arin block and listened to the public grievances besides conducting a marathon field visit of the block and inspected various developmental projects.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rahul Malik, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer Javid Iqbal, Executive Engineers of various departments, Block Development Officers and other senior officers were present on the occasion.

During the Public Darbar, locals, social workers, senior citizens and civil society members put forth plethora of developmental issues of the area including macadamisation and repair of various roads, repair of damaged transformers and upgradation of HT/LT lines, availability of piped drinking water, construction of lanes and drains, adequate medical facilities, speedy completion of bridges connecting and construction of Irrigation khuls, MGNERGA, Health Cards, snow clearance, pending payments of MGNREGA and other works, requirement of electric poles, issues of Health centres and schools besides availability of essential commodities. The delegations also raised several inter-departmental issues and sought intervention of district administration for resolution of their issues.
Atleast 60 grievances were raised during the Publuc Darbar out of which 20 demands were demands were resolved on spot while other issues raised on the spot demanded a field visit. The Deputy Commissioner conducted an extensive tour of the Arin block and inspected various developmental projects. He visited PHC Chuntimulla, Higher Secondary School Chuntimulla, PMGSY road from Chuntimulla to Kudara road, Water Supply Scheme Chuntimulla and other developmental projects.

During the visit several on spot decisions were taken for resolution of grievances that were raised during the Public Darbar. For various issues that involve multiple departments, DC Bandipora directed for joint inspection of the concerned departments to resolve the issues observed during the interaction with public.
Dr Owais exhorted upon the executing agencies to stick to the timelines already fixed for completion of projects. Concerned officers were directed to undertake surprise inspections of government offices for ensuring punctuality of employees in offices. He stressed that Government officials should be freely accessible to the public, take note of their grievances and work with added zeal to address these grievances.

While appealing the people to participate in the block diwas to put forward their grievances DC Bandipora said the advantage of block diwas is that government comes at the doorstep of people to listen to them and so that they are not forced to visit government offices. He said conducting of public outreach programmes provides an important feedback for the government to tailor its interventions for the public good and reach to the doorstep of the people instead of them visiting the corridors of power in secretariat or other government offices.
