GANDERBAL, MMARCH 05: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, chaired a crucial meeting today to assess the progress and strategize the enhancement of the One District-One Product (ODOP) initiative in the district.
The meeting, attended by ACR Ganderbal, Chief Planning Officer, General Manager DIC, AD H&H, Lead District Manager, District officer JKEDI besides representatives of other Concerned departments focused on the promotion and development of Willow wicker, chosen as the ODOP as a part of District Export Hub.
At the ouset, the AD H&H provided a comprehensive overview of the ongoing efforts to uplift Willow wicker production. This included initiatives such as branding, market promotion, artisan skill enhancement, and expansion of the cultivable area dedicated to willow cultivation.
Underlining the importance of the ODOP initiative, the DC reiterated the district administration’s commitment to ensuring the holistic socio-economic development of all individuals involved in Willow wicker work.
The meeting also discussed the establishment of a Common Facility Centre in the district under the Micro and Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP), a central sponsored scheme aimed at meeting the demands of local industries.
In a bid to expedite progress, the DC directed concerned departments to provide details of services and schemes available to support Willow wicker artisans.
Additionally, plans for cultivable area expansion were discussed, with 100 kanals of land already identified to address production challenges.
To further explore cultivation opportunities, the DC emphasized joint visit involving the AD H&H, KVK Ganderbal, and Revenue department and were directed for a detailed report on the feasibility and necessary steps required for willow cultivation on the identified land.
The meeting, attended by officials from various concerned departments, underscored the collaborative efforts aimed at fostering economic growth and empowerment within the district.
