GANDERBAL, JUNE 09: The Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal today visited Fruit Plant Nursery cum orchard established at Tehsil Bagh Ganderbal to inspect its functioning.
The DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad Baba, Horticulture Development Officer Ganderbal and other concerned officials.
On the occasion the DC took stock of working of the nursery and was briefed by the Horticulture Development Officer about its functioning.
The HDO informed the DC that nursery/orchard is established at an area of 169.5 kanals of land where more than 50,000 elite nursery plant are planted of high density varieties of apple, apricot, peach, plum, cherry, etc.
The DC also visited the under construction installation of work shed for performing grafting procedures and temporary shortage shed for removal of shield heat of horticultural produce after harvest.
The HDO informed the DC that 50 by 20 feet under constructed work shed is constructed at the cost of Rs 9 lakh executed by department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing which also serves as a work place and pre-planting treatment site for various nursery plants, seeds/stones and other allied activities.
The DC appreciated the Department for establishing plan nursery and said that horticulture sector plays an important role in the district and contributes significantly to the economy of the district especially for farming community
On the occasion the HDO demanded establishment of fruit and vegetable canning/training center for which DC asked him to submit the DPR to DC Office for further course of action.
