Ganderbal, November 05: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, held a review meeting today to discuss the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, focusing on developing Model Solar Villages within the district.
This initiative aligns with India’s vision for sustainable energy development by promoting local adoption of solar power and providing free electricity to households through solar energy solutions.
The scheme, aiming to support self-sustaining energy infrastructure in rural areas, will grant approximately Rs. 1 crore to each selected village for establishing solar infrastructure. Households will be offered subsidies for installing rooftop solar panels, facilitating the provision of free electricity.
During the meeting, SE KPDCL informed that all domestic consumers with a bank account and suitable rooftop are eligible to benefit from this scheme.
The DC emphasized the need for robust implementation at the grassroots level, directing stakeholders to mobilize resources, coordinate with approved vendors, and actively engage local Panchayats to drive community awareness and encourage widespread adoption of solar energy solutions.
The DC instructed SE KPDCL to assign responsibility to each SDO to organize awareness camps at the block level, in coordination with BDOs, DDC Members, and other prominent local citizens. He emphasized that these camps should offer on-the-spot registration for interested consumers to streamline access to the scheme’s benefits.
To monitor progress, the DC directed the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) to submit weekly reports detailing the number of consumers registered on the designated portal.
He further instructed the KPDCL to develop a clear strategy to strengthen the solar power infrastructure across the district, ensuring effective and sustained benefits to all eligible residents.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, SE KPDCL Circle Ganderbal, ACD, Ex. Engineer KPDCL, Lead District Manager, and other district officers.
