Bandipora, Aug 4 (GNS): With over a decade since the construction started, the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Saderkote Bala village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district continues to remain incomplete causing inconvenience to the local populace.
A group of villagers talking to GNS said that they had generously donated the Eidgah land for the construction of the health centre, but ‘now it seems to have gone to waste’.
The foundation stone, they said, was laid in 2013, but since then the construction agency has displayed complete apathy in progressing the work, resulting in its prolonged delay.
“The consequences of this incompletion are dire for the local population as they face acute hardships due to the absence of any nearby medical facility”, a local said adding “the villagers are forced to travel to Hajin or Sumbal even for minor health issues that could have been addressed at the NTPHC.”
Expressing anguish over the apathy of authorities, a local activist Anayat Bhat told GNS that the housing board has only managed to erect a concrete structure in all these years.
“This situation raises serious concerns about the health and well-being of the community,” he said.
The villagers have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmad and Commissioner Secretary Health & Medical Education department to intervene in the matter at an earliest.
Meanwhile repeated attempts to contact authorities of the district didn’t fructify. (GNS)
