12 Pregnant Women, Travels Among New Cases In J&K; 542 Patients Recovered So Far

Srinagar, May 16 (GNS): The number of novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday crossed 1100 mark as there was highest single-day spike in covid-19 cases on Saturday.
While 73 cases were reported today, 138 were reported in last two days alone and include twelve pregnant women.
While overall tally has risen to 1121—989 are in Kashmir and 132 in Jammu. The total number of active positive cases stands at 567—70 in Jammu and 497—as 542 people have recovered including 60 in Jammu and 482 in Valley while 12 persons have died.
Nodal Officer for Coronavirus Control at SKIMS, Dr G H Yatoo told GNS that 27 samples tested positive for the disease at viral diagnostic lab of the tertiary care hospital.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS, told GNs that 12 of them are from Kupwara, 10 from Jammu (all travelers), 3 from Anantnag and one each from Baramulla and Budgam.
The cases from Kupwara Include 8-year-old girl, 24-year-old, 29-year-old, 36-year-old, 38-year-old, 48-year-old and 61-year-old women from Gonipora Handwara, three men from warpora—aged 25, 28 and 43 besides 19-year-old man from Warpora and 40-year-old man from Kralpora.
The three persons whose samples were collected at DH Anantnag and returned positive at SKIMS include 25-year-old male from Damhal, 26-year-old from Anantnag, and 32-year-old male from Kunzer Baramulla, all travels from Bhopal. The Baramulla case is a 55-year-old man while Budgam cases is a 70-year-old from Chadoora who died at SKIMS.
Dr Salim, concerned nodal officer, told GNs that 17 persons tested positive at CD hospital’s Covid-19 laboratory and include 14 from Anantnag—12 pregnant women and one traveler from New Delhi—while three are from Kulgam—26-year-old from Khutbatpora Kulgam, 21-year-old woman from Pheloo and a 25-year-old from Gandora. The Anantng cases at CD hospital include 12 pregnantnwomen from Gutigund, Imooh, ZadiporaSombron, Telwani, Oodsoo, ToosuMunword, Brienti, Achabal, CS Pora and Mominabad Ashajipora while another case is a 25-year-old man from Nursingpora.
The other cases were reported from private laboratory and GMC Jammu.
On Friday, J&K recorded highest single day spike in cases as 65 people tested positive for the dreaded disease. 35 of them were confirmed at army’s command hospital in Udhampur and included travels from Kulgam (25) and Ramban (10).
Meanwhile, 29 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, three from Jammu division and 26 from Kashmir Division today.
Providing district-wise breakup, sources said that Anantnag has 162 cases, Srinagar 156, Bandipora 135, Baramulla 118, Shopian 107, Kupwara 97, Budgam 57, Ganderbal 23, Kulgam 119, and Pulwama 15.
Similarly, Jammu has 39 positive cases, Udhampur 24, Samba 11, Rajouri 5, Kathua 31, Reasi 3, Kishtwar 1 and Ramban have 18 cases.

As per officials, till date 109092 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 29243 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 107 in Hospital Quarantine, 567 in hospital isolation and 14114 under home surveillance. Besides, 65049 persons have completed their surveillance period. (GNS)
