Srinagar, Jun 17 (GNS): DIG North Kashmir Range Sujit Kumar Thursday transferred a Moharrir Head Constable (MHC) and suspended two sentries during a ‘surprise visit’ to police station Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS said that the police officer in a bid to review the developments on investigations related to various criminal activities and the militancy-related cases today visited and inspected the campus of Police Station Sopore. “The police officer accompanied by Superintendent, DySP Headquarters and SHO concerned during his visit found few police personnel, posted at different ranks, in the police station careless and unprofessional in their duties”, the statement read.

Taking an exception to the ‘carelessness’ and ‘unprofessionalism’ of the personnel, the regional police officer, as per the statement directed Superintendent of Police to transfer an MHC and put two sentries under suspension with immediate effect.

Confirming it, DIG Sujit Kumar told GNS that the personnel were quite careless and unprofessional in their attitude. “I have directed the SP concerned to transfer the MHC and suspend two sentries immediately”, the officer said.

Meanwhile GNS has learnt from sources that the transfer and suspensions have been made in the after a notorious drug peddler escaped from the police station concerned this morning.

They said that a notorious drug peddler Manzoor Ahmed Sofi @Mandaba was under custody at the police station and a case under NDPS Act registered against him. “The mysterious disappearance of the accused led to a series of apprehensions by the family and approached SP Sopore to retrieve the accused”, they said.

Taking a strong notice of the incident, DIG Sujit Kumar accordingly visited the police station and directed the Superintendent of Police to transfer the MHC and put two sentries under suspension for their alleged delinquency in duties.

They however said that the accused was rearrested by a police team and put behind the bars. (GNS)
