Srinagar, Aug 17 (GNS): District Shopian Journalists’ body have elected its office bearers, marking a new beginning towards a better and prosperous tomorrow for the media professionals in the south Kashmir district.
“In a historic event, the journalists of District Shopian have successfully elected their first office bearers through a democratic process. The election was conducted under the strict supervision of an election body comprising Election Commissioner Malik Irshad of News 18, Election Observers Magray Mansoor and Mitha Gattoo (both members of the Shopian Civil Society), RO Shah Irshad of Gulistan, and Sheikh Hilal of Kashmir Life, who served as the Election Supervisor,” reads a statement issued to GNS.
“Gulzar Habib was elected as President, running unopposed. Ajaz Dar of Aaj Tak and Shahid Tak of ETV Bharat each secured 24 votes and were elected as Spokesperson and Treasurer, respectively.”
“The event was graced by the presence of Assadullah, Secretary of MC Shopian, who attended as the Chief Guest,” the statement reads.
“This election marks a significant step in establishing a structured and representative body for the journalistic community in District Shopian. It represents a historic move toward better governance and protection of the rights of journalists, who face various challenges while performing their professional duties. The newly elected office bearers have pledged to advance this body with a strong commitment to journalistic ethics and principles,” reads the statement.
“The establishment of these new office bearers will pave the way for improved practices and standards within the field of journalism. The dates for the oath-taking ceremony will be announced within the next three days,” the statements added. (GNS)
