GANDERBAL, NOVEMBER 11: The District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee under the chairmanship of District Magistrate (DM) Ganderbal, Shyambir today reviewed the progress of the committee and discussed threadbare issues regarding the implementation of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. 
The meeting was attended by all Committee members including Chief Education Officer, DSWO, BDC chairperson Kangan and Gund, Dy SP and other representatives.
The chair highlighted the need to sensitize these groups regarding the atrocities that can be committed and also the remedies available under this act.
The DM instructed the DSWO Ganderbal to prepare a detailed presentation so that awareness is given to PRI functionaries and students in schools. 
Furthermore, provisions of the act were deliberated upon among all the committee members and stress was laid on the need to generate tremendous awareness in the tribal belts of the district.
The DM instructed the CEO and members from NGOs to conduct awareness programmes so that people at large become aware about the provisions of the act.
