Srinagar, May 6: An encounter started between militants and government forces at Badigam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday morning.
Official sources told GNS that army’s 44 RR acting on inputs about the presence of some militants launched s cordon-and-search operation at Badigam village.
Conforming the incident, a police officer told GNS that soon after the search party fired some shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire.
The officer said that the fire was retaliated triggering off an exchange of fire.
A group of three to five militants believed to be enganged in a gunfight, the officer said.
When reports last came in the intermittent exchange of firing was going on. (GNS)
